Design Capabilities
Shopify offers plenty of flexibility with hundreds of free and premium design themes. The option to customise your themes and add/control features is also a capability, however without coding knowledge this capability may be limited. If you’re a first time user or don’t have the skills to customise your theme to your specific requirements, you can always contact a Shopify Ninja to help with these changes, but beware, these experts will cost.

Product Management Capabilities
A good CMS forms the backbone of every eCommerce website and Shopify offers a highly efficient platform. With image URL upload options and a built-in product details SEO function, Shopify is attractive for its ease of use. Also, where managing product variations can often be time consuming, Shopify minimises these complications by allowing users to create multiple versions of the same product, simply and easily. However, despite all this, Shopify doesn’t compare to some other major content management systems; in that it has restrictions on the amount of non-product-related content you can upload.

External Integration Capabilities
Shopify offers a range of external integration points for customised solutions so it can communicate with other major platforms as required. It also has mobile integration, an essential feature in today’s digital landscape. From notification system Webhooks to hosted payments to fulfilment and real-time shipping, Shopify offers easy integrations for a range of industries and eCommerce requirements.

Pricing
Shopify’s basic plan starts at $29/month; the average plan is $79 /month, and an advanced Shopify account is $299/month. Shopify also has a fourth plan, for enterprise level, high-volume eCommerce stores which starts at around $2,000/month.

Design Capabilities
Magento’s customisable design capabilities include several unique features that are not found on other platforms; such as the ability to manage multiple storefronts and its support of multiple languages/currencies. Often praised for its user-friendly interface; site layout and menus are well-organised and straightforward. However, user feedback also reports that Magento can be complex for first-time users and offers limited hosting which can cause a congested user experience.

Product Management Capabilities
If you’re looking for basic capabilities for product management, Magento is a great option with simple functions to manage product, create new items, clone, modify or manage categories. Magento, unlike Shopify, also offers the ability to introduce custom-order abilities, for example; engraving, pad-printing, custom cards, packaging and more. Magento also offers an extremely flexible order management system that takes into consideration fulfilment, inventory management, payments and analytics for a fully-integrated system.

Design Capabilities
WooCommerce is built for WordPress and powers 28% of all online stores. A key benefit of the WooCommerce platform is the large range of custom themes that are available, the majority of which are mobile and tablet responsive. WooCommerce also offers a range of user-tested navigation options for optimal user experience. The number one advantage with WooCommerce, due to it being built for WordPress, is the fact that it is 100% open source, meaning, you can benefit from all other users’ open source software. However, the possibility of WooCommerce not being compatible with your existing website theme is highly possible, it also doesn’t support multiple languages/currencies unless you have paid extensions.

Product Management Capabilities
With built-in ‘smart management’ WooCommerce allows users to browse, search, add, update and delete product records with ease. With automatic SEO features, optimising your store is a simple process which is good news for first time users, even those with little to no coding experience. WooCommerce provides a default PayPal payment option however if you wish to accept credit cards you’ll have to purchase additional extensions.
